1. A daguerreotype is a photographic process that puts a direct positive, made in the camera, and puts it on a silvered copper plate. The surface is like a mirror, very fragile and puts the image right on the silvered surface. They seemed to be very prominent in the mid 19th century. This replaced the earlier invention of heliography.
2. An albumen print is a method of producing a photographic print on paper from a negative. The main ingredient is albumen found in egg whites. It was dominent until the turn of the 20th century.
3. Stereographing is projecting a sphere onto a plane. Started in 1500s, used through the 16th and 17th centuries and most popular from 1865 to 1880.
4. A carte de viste is a small photograph made in 1854 made of an albumen print. They were used as visiting cards to have among friends and visitors.
5. Matthew Brady and Alexander Gardner were famous for photojournalism mostly in the American Civil War. I think they did portraits of celebrities. They were active in the civil war era.
